Choosing Your Design

Options Are Key

Designing a kitchen is not an easy task, especially when options are limitless.  When going with a fully custom kitchen there are tonnes of little details to choose from, including cabinet doors, handles, colors, materials and much much more.  Our designers always recommend starting with the color scheme, style of cabinets and colors that you would like to see in your new kitchen. Once you have that ironed out the final touches such as lighting, counter tops and handles can be added in at the end and optimized to work with your decor.  A lot of our clients here at Vida however are not sure what options they have and hearing the word fully custom can be a bit intimidating when planning a redesign of your future luxury kitchen. Remember however that options are key, especially since at Vida we try to ensure that your dreams come true in regards to your decor, and that is why below you will find our little guide to choosing your custom kitchen design.

Color Scheme

Color choices are endless when going with a custom kitchen, so the feeling can be over encumbering at first but don’t worry.  It is a whole lot easier when you first decide whether you want a more in touch with nature and get a wooden finish or a more modern multi or single colored look.  Some of the hottest trends in 2021 are the classic black and white scheme with accents on door handles.  Another more calm and grounded combination is the gold and green with the green being the base of the cabinets and the gold making up the accents. If you want a more eccentric look for your luxury cabinetry and would like to lighten up the mood, another popular combo for 2021 is red, yellow and white.  These colors work together to create a more modern, outlandish look, but give the kitchen a unique vibe that many love to bask in.

Cabinet Door Styles

Vida has a plethora of rare and unique door styles to choose from, but once you have your color scheme, you can move on to door styles, usually at this point the designer will have several recommendations that will work well with your desired color scheme as well as the overall style of your home. But if you are not sure which doors you want some classic styles can be found in the image below.  Styles such as Covington and Pendleton II work well on classic, wooden kitchen cabinets, whilst styles like Heritage and Lexington work well for modern kitchens.  Manhattan style has been a trendy choice lately especially with unique color combos and patterns. However, because at Vida we have more than just the basic styles, you should really see our cabinet doors for a sample of what custom can do for your design.  From stone slabs, to unique cutouts to even textures that you probably have not seen in a kitchen before, we have it all, and if nothing catches your eye, well that is the beauty of custom, we will work with you till we find the ideal match. Plus we are always updating the options so there is always something new for clients seeking that unique appearance that no one else can lay claim to.

Handles and Accents

The proof is in the details and although style, colors, cabinet door finishes and even material selection all matter, where it often falls apart is the accents.  Every real estate guru knows that a kitchen’s luxury is defined by how the accents can make it pop and that is why this step is so crucial in any handmade luxury cabinetry order. Does a hive knob work with your decor, or do you need a pacific pull, perhaps a midvale pull or a mid century knob would work best. It can be hard to pick the handles that will grace your luxury high quality kitchen cabinets, but combinations usually work best. By that we mean that it is best to mix knobs and pulls depending on where the cabinet door is located, how it should open and is a normal width or custom.  Sometimes, there are certain spaces that are more suitable for knobs whilst others are more suitable for pull style handles.  Once you and the designer have ironed out which works best where its time to pick material and color and this is a key aspect.  The designer will be able to lay out several strategies based on what the color combo will accomplish but generally you want to go for something that accentuates the rest of the design.
